Covid-19 undoubtedly affected such a large number of us and we (Ryan & Daniella) were no different.

After watching our restaurant capacity drop to almost nothing we were forced to hang up our aprons and collect unemployment.

As all San Franciscans know, the rent here is no joke. We had to figure out a game plan fast;

We started a bakery.

It started off small, just baking a few loafs of sourdough for the neighbors. As word spread about our story and goods the community almost instantly adopted us and started pouring in their support.

Within just a few days Bernal Bakery was up to its neck in orders!

We expanded our menu to offer sourdough cinnamon rolls, brown butter chocolate chip cookies and a seasonal crumb cake.

We pushed our little kitchen to its limits and still couldn’t keep up with the demand!

From there we decided to take Bernal Bakery to the next level by applying for a business license and LLC.

Today Bernal Bakery is operating at full speed out of a local commissary kitchen. We’ve had to say goodbye to our signature basket on Wright Street where pick-up was completely contactless thanks to our amazing “boom arm drop system” (generously welded by our amazing neighbor).

These days you can find found our baked goodies at cafés, farmers markets and pop-ups around the city.
